Background:

Léon Trousset (1838 - December 29, 1917) was a talented French painter that lived and worked in the Southwest of USA and the North of Mexico from the late 1860's to the early 1900's.
Edan Milton Hughes wrote about Léon in ARTISTS IN CALIFORNIA 1786-1940: ". . . . he was one of the Bohemians on the Monterey Peninsula, he painted with such artists as
Riz, Tavernier and Denny."
His works are held in various places such as:
the Amon Carter Museum of Western Art, Fort Worth, TX; Mission Santa Cruz-Holy Cross Church and the Museum of Art and History in Santa Cruz, CA;
Carmel Mission, Carmel, CA; Our Lady of Refuge Church, Castroville, CA; Mission San Luis Obispo Collection; Museo Ce Ciudad Juarez, Juarez, Mexico;
Museum of New Mexico in Santa Fe; Smithsonian American Art Museum; The El Paso Museum of Art in Texas;
two artworks are held in the Jorge Alvarez Collection in Juarez, Mexico; and two paintings are held at the Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside, CA.
